We are so glad you have chosen us to be your dentist! We provide quality dentistry in a fun and state-of-the-art environment. We always welcome parents to come back during their child’s first visit.
Our team is specially trained to help kids overcome fear and anxiety. We look forward to giving your child the best dental experience possible!
Your Child’s Very First Visit
Your child’s first visit to the dental office should be around his or her first birthday, but can be earlier. We want you to feel comfortable bringing your child in whenever you are ready. It is recommended that they be seen before the age of 3.
Being patient and calm on your part will help ensure a successful and stress-free visit for your child. For younger children, scheduling their appointment as early as possible in the day, when they are alert and fresh is ideal. It will help create a better experience for them and in turn for you. Our doctors always recommend morning appointments for kids under 6 years of age because we are committed to giving them a great visit!
The typical first dental appointment for your child includes:
- A gentle and thorough examination of the teeth, jaw, bite, gums, and oral tissues to monitor growth and development and observe any problem areas
- A gentle cleaning with one of our hygienists, which includes polishing teeth and removing any plaque, tartar build-up, and stains
- X-rays (as needed)
- A demonstration of proper dental hygiene
- Topical fluoride
- An oral exam by one of our doctors
What Should I Tell my Child before the First Visit?
You can explain to your child that the dentist wants to be a friend and help care for his or her teeth.
“The dentist will count your teeth, clean them with a special tickling toothbrush, and take some pictures inside your mouth.” Avoid using words such as “needle,” pull,” “drill,” or “hurt, as these things may never have entered the child’s mind. Reassure them that the dentist will be very gentle and that it will be a fun visit!
We would love to give you and your child a tour of our office before his or her first visit! This will create a sense of familiarity when the real appointment rolls around. Stop by any time during our normal business hours, no appointment necessary!
